When Amazon released the Echo series of smart speakers, the rage associated with smart speakers had never been higher. From the Echo, the Echo plus, Echo spot, and the Echo buttons, the craze was at an all-time high. Other tech giants have been jumping in to get a piece of the action, which of course has created a stiff competition in the niche. So much so that Amazon has made revisions to their Echo series to stay ahead of the game.
Amazon Echo Dot Performance
Attested to be one of the best-selling speakers from Amazon is the Echo dot. It does a great job at surmising the other Amazon Echo dot products. Suffice to say, it is the first Amazon Echo products to extend beyond one room.
Amazon has been making revisions to the older versions of the Dot. They may seem to not hit the right spot or have some bugs but that is the furthest thing from the truth. Contrary to what it seems like, the older versions are just as good as the 3rd generation of the Amazon dot. They just keep getting better and better.
One might think that after all the iterations made for the series they might add a 3.5mm auxiliary cord. It’s mighty, but it does have its drawbacks. Nevertheless, we cannot stress this enough, the Dot gives more than it takes. Yes, the third generation if the dot is outstanding, however, if you already have a home full of smart speakers then upgrading to Amazon do is not in your best interest.
Price and Release Date
For its price of $39.99 at Amazon, the Dot has more to give than to take; from the streaming services courtesy of the top music streaming services in the world, full control of your smart home to long-range calls from anywhere in the country, its modest price tag is the makes it the ultimate Amazon smart speaker.
Compared to the two previous models, the Amazon dot has a design that is kinder to the eyes. The round edge makes the speaker look like a hockey puck. The grille fabric and around the outer edges give it the much needed classy yet contemporary look. The fabric design seamlessly matches with the previous Echo speakers which got the same fabric outlook in this year’s revised versions. The fabric coupled with the matching colors ranging from heather grey and sandstone shades, making it even all the more immaculate. The new versatile colors are definitely a welcome bonus.
Atop the Dot is the familiar Alexa, mute, power, and volume. When turning on Alexa, the blue flashing common to the Alexa devices flashes around the edge when the wake command is given. On the other side of the speaker is the 3.5mm auxiliary port which allows you to sync Alexa with other speakers and the power jack. Unfortunately, the 3.5 mm auxiliary cord does not come pre-packed, it is now apparently now a separate entity.
Setting up Amazon Echo Dot with Alexa
Setting up the Dot with Alexa is a simple as it gets – especially if you already have Alexa pre-installed in your house. If this sounds a lot like your situation, all you have to do is use the Alexa app. Go to the plus option, perform a quick scan and before you know it your Dot will be up and running. If you have not installed any Amazon Echo device in your home, you have to download the app sign in into your account. From there the process is pretty much the same. After several remakes, Amazon has made the grouping of different Echo products easier.
